A product that asks for a photo of your face should write down its own limits. This page answers four questions: what is measured, what isn't, what happens to the photo, and how much to trust the result.
All four are read from the surface of one photo: colour, sheen and texture patterns. Each becomes a 0–100 score and a delta against your previous scan.
| Reading | What it looks at | How it's used |
|---|---|---|
| Hydration | Surface roughness, fine-line density, dullness | Selects humectant and barrier steps |
| Oiliness | Specular highlight pattern on T-zone and cheeks | Switches cleanser and SPF texture |
| Redness | Red-channel distribution by zone | Adds a soothing step; flags fragrance and alcohol |
| Texture | Pore visibility, unevenness | Sets exfoliation frequency |
A photo is a photo. The following are outside what Vyota does; if you're concerned about any of them, see a dermatologist or physician.
Vyota does not identify acne, eczema, rosacea or any other condition. Redness is read as redness, nothing more.
It does not track changes in shape, colour or size. The only right place for that is a dermatologist.
It cannot know how an ingredient will react on you. Flags come from general literature, not your history.
Micronutrient thresholds are intake math; they don't measure what's in your body. Vitamin D or iron need a blood test.
Foundation, filters and harsh light change the readings. The app declines a scan when capture conditions are poor.
Scores are trend indicators. Look at the direction over weeks, not at a single scan.
Analysis runs on our server; the photo doesn't stay there. It is not stored, not used to train models, not shared with third parties. What remains is four scores.
The app checks light and distance; if they're off, it declines the shot.
The photo travels over TLS. Tied to a temporary token, not your name.
The four surface readings are computed. It takes seconds.
Only numbers and the zone map come back to the phone.
Once processing ends, the server copy is deleted. There is no backup.
Scores are sensitive to capture conditions. The app asks for morning window light, no makeup, and reminds you.
The skin cycle is roughly 28 days. We suggest weekly, not daily scans, and don't look for direction in under two weeks.
Small differences are noise. Vyota changes the routine only when several scans agree on a change.
